I’ve used this app for years and a few upgrades, its worth every penny, even at full price. If you download a lot, you need this application (saved my bacon on a few very large downloads that stalled). The dev is also very responsive and the product is rock solid. Speed Download really shines when you have a page of things you want: all you do is add the page and the app will grab any file extension you tell it too off the link. I’ve downloaded hundreds of zip files in one click!

Been a happy user since version 1… though a long-running bug I experience starting with version 3 still hasn’t been fixed. When you add a download link SD sometimes asks you if you want to download the link via a pop-up window. This doesn’t make ANY sense at all and I’ve been in touch with the developer for many months to no avail. Other than that, SD is a good app. Just wish the bug would be fixed.

I’m also a happy long-time user. This is a good deal!

Yes, I have been waiting for this one to come to MacZot. I installed this several days ago on a trial basis and queried MacZot to see if they could add it, and here it is. As long as I don’t win it on NextZot, I will definitely buy it as it is a great tool to have.
Thanks, Lisa!

How effective is this on a broadband connection?
August 2nd, 2007 at 6:24 am
unlike Dave above, i bought it and love it. YMMV, so try the demo. it’s been a lifesaver for me when i have to queue up a large number of downloads (like URLs of papers from a collection system) and not completely destroy my bandwidth or tax the server. i’ve never seen huge speed gains but it’s always given me reliable connections…once it starts grabbing a file it’ll hang in there until the download’s done. at the ZOT! price it’s definitely worth it!

Is it lame that I check this site everyday with excitement? Lately I walk away with my head in my hands…
…But every once in a while I learn about a cool application I’ve never even heard of before. I’m going to test this out, but I think you have a purchase from me. :D

@Josh – Some people might think you or I are lame for watching it so closely, but I don’t think so. I check ZOT everyday religiously, whether at work, home or on vacation. I always make sure I submit my NextZot so I have a chance to win something free (of course it may end up being useless to me). I don’t get disappointed, as sometimes I am introduced to a new company who has other products as well. Plus it makes me learn about what is available and look for competing products to find the best in that category at least the best for me. I also watch MUPromo and Woot religiously as well. Maybe I’m a tech for sale junkie. Although I haven’t bought much on Woot or MUPromo, but I have bought many things on ZOT. My life on Apple is much better because of ZOT.
Happy Zotting!
Thanks ZOT and Lisa, you all are awesome!

Besides it only takes about a minute to check it to see if its’ something you are interested in, and occasionally you run across some great deals.

I really like Speed Download, personally. I’ve found it really useful, especially for downloading large numbers of files off of specific webpages (like directory indexes).

@Britonius – Thanks sir. At the very least I’m not alone in my addiction. Acceptance is the first step.
As always, many thanks to Lisa and Brian at Zot and the awesome devs for showcasing this here!

I didn’t win NextZot, so I definitely bought it since I was waiting for it to show up here.
@Josh – you’re welcome!

I watched the SCO sceencasts a while ago and I was since on the fence of buying Speed Download. At this price and with my new hi-speed broadband connection, it’s a no brainer. Zotted! Thanks MacZOT!

This is definitely a great download manager for mac users. like many others, i would suggest you give it a go, esp. for those who download quite a bit of comics off the internet.
