I have been using Billable for at least two or three years and I highly recommend it. It recently got an update. Though the developer rarely updates it, it’s actually not needed, because the program is so good already.

It is true Billable development was slow over the last year or so, but big things are coming in 2009. :)

As a freelance writer and occasional computer tech, I’ve been using Billable for over two years. I dumped an expensive Filemaker Pro solution for it and haven’t looked back. It’s simple, fast, and doesn’t have a bunch of features that I don’t need. Oh yeah, and the invoices look completely pro.

The only thing I miss from the FMP solution is network functionality… I don’t need multiuser, but I would like to be able to store the database on another network volume, perhaps one that’s online, so I could access it from one of several computers.

Otherwise it’s near perfect and AFAIK bug-free. Love the ability to print the invoice as a .pdf file and email it all in one go. Brilliant and recommended.

Finally, some good Mac software on ZOT!

I looked at all the time-keeping, invoicing programs and liked Billable best – paid full price for it a couple years ago. I have yet to see another that I like better. My wish is that it would keep a running total of both paid and outstanding receivables. I’d buy it again and give it my recommendation.

@synthman While I can’t be too specific I can say I have been working on the network problem, ala sync.

@Ralph More reporting is coming in v2.

We have been using Billable for about 3 years for our Mac consulting business and have been very happy with it. Very easy to use and keep track of so many clients. The only thing we really, really have needed is reporting to make month-end and year-end accounting easier. To be able to get a period defined report of total sales, sales tax, etc would make it THE perfect invoicing app. One issue we are seeing now though – we have a couple hundred clients in our database now, with multiple invoices for each and the performance is taking a pretty big hit. I’m wondering if this is because of the way Billable handles large amounts of invoices? We have it on two machines, an iMac G5 with 2GB memory running Leopard and a G4 Power Mac 800 with 1.25GB memory running Tiger. It is almost unusable on the G4 whereas every other app runs great. Similar on the G5, takes about 10 – 20 seconds for an invoice to update after the smallest edit.

Thanks Mike for working on an update!!!!
