Scared of the terminal or can’t be bothered to remember those commands to customize your system the way you want? Mac Pilot is your digital savior. Easily enable and disable hidden features in Mac OS X, optimize and repair your system, and perform numerous routine maintenance operations with the click of a button!

Pro user or not, you can now increase computer performance with only a few clicks of the mouse. Optimize your network for broadband connectivity, completely customize Apple File Sharing, perform essential maintenance without having to remember mind boggling acronyms, and much more. However, those are just a few of the many reasons why Mac Pilot is your choice over Cocktail, TinkerTool and Onyx!

Enable the “cut” option in the Finder, disable menu items for security, disable icon caches, set history limits, erase recently used files, prevent your dock from being modified, turn off all system animations, increase the speed at which windows resize, change which format screenshots are taken in, set a default name and location for screenshots, disable a secondary processor, disable the startup chime, and even change the login window picture!

Put Mac Pilot to the test against the competitors. Features, stability and interface say it all – but why don’t you be the judge?

  1. Zotto Says:

Still no universal binary versions for Koingo’s apps. How long should we wait?

  2. Mickeh Says:

Wow, this seems great for all the system tweaks you can do. I will try out this and maybe even buy it, it is a great application!

  3. gryphonent Says:

Hmm… I did the test, and I will stick to TinkerToolSystem. Already purchased it a while ago and it never let me down.

  4. Jan Nedelka Says:

Looks cool, but I’ll be getting and Intel-based Mac in a few weeks. No universal binary, no sale :-(.

  5. Allen Hancock Says:

I bought this a while ago and am glad I did. Very cool set of tools!

  6. Josh Says:

Tested this a while ago and wanted to buy it, but couldn’t bring myself to pay two lunches for it. Jumped on it today since it only cost one lunch. I can deal with that. Thanks MacZOT! Good one today.

  7. JHarris Says:

I too will not be getting this. No universal binary, and I already purchased TinkerTool System, wihich was less money than Mac Pilot’s ZOT price. However, I still check MacZot! every day, and have purchased a number of apps from here. Keep up the good work.

  8. Todd Thomas Says:

I downloaded the app to try it out. While I have Mac Pilot runing (and doing nothing) it consumes 70-90% of my CPU. I can’t imagine what it could be doing. It seems to be constantly updating its window for no apparent reason too (turn on Quartz Debug in the developer tools).

  9. Josh Hague Says:

For those who are interested, the Universal Binary version will be out within the next couple months, alongside a UB for every one of our other applications. You’ll be glad to know that as far as Mac Pilot is concerned, there isn’t much of a noticable difference when running it on an Intel Mac.

  10. Gipetto Says:

Hm… not so sure now. Running any script from the tools panel completely locks the program and when I ran the cron scripts it exited very quickly with a success message.

I’m skeptical… though I did buy it for the slew of other features.

  11. Josh Hague Says:

Most likely not stalling, just give it some time as the operation may be time consuming. For instance, reindexing my spotlight takes upwards of 15 minutes. Mac Pilot runs shell scripts to perform maintenance, and as some don’t return status updates, it will appear as if it’s just hanging. Typing the command raw into the Terminal would result a shell which waits the same duration before returning control to the user.

  12. Sidney Says:

    Ach!!

I literally bought a license for this at full price yesterday.

  13. Brandon Says:

Dashboard on and off at the click of a button (plus restart)? I’m sold.

As much as I like the shell, this will make making OS X mine a little quicker.

  14. Ryan Says:

Great app, and the sale price makes it worth it. BUT…

I would really like to see two changes. One is the CPU usage already mentioned – the fan on my laptop constantly runs whenever the app is running. Not a big thing, since I probably won’t have the app open for more than a minute or two at a time, but still kind of annoying.

The other is the ability to change the “arrow links” in iTunes to point towards your own Library instead of the Music Store (a feature of Onyx). I love that feature and its the one reason I can’t get rid of Onyx yet and use Mac Pilot exclusively.

With these two additions, I would be more than willing to crown Mac Pilot the king of all OS X tweaking apps!

It would also be nice to see the ability to prevent .DS_STORE files, ._filename resource fork files, and .Trashes folders on specific drives/folders on your computer. This would help a lot when certain folders I share on a network get viewed by PC users. Although that might be beyond the intended scope of the application.

In any case, keep up the good work!

  15. Groxx Says:

    Aaagh! I missed it >.

  16. Groxx Says:

Grr, cut off my comment… note to self: never use opening angle-brackets.
I hope this one comes back some time, I’d love to have it for a Zotted price… hell, I’m considering buying it at full anyway.

  17. Brandon Says:

Did anyone get their license yet? I’m still “pending”. Other Zots since this one have already been approved…
