Friday the 13th? 13 - 13 - 13

Some people think Friday the 13th is unlucky…

What do you think?

Is today YOUR lucky day?
If it is, you will get 13 Mac apps for only $13.00!

The catch? You only get 13 minutes to BUY!

First, I have to let you know that each developer, independently, let me know how crazy I am. And, I have to let you know that the price of $13, is really too low to warrant the quality of applications you’ll see in this bundle. However, here are some simple reasons why we were able to talk 13 independent developers, all of whom require the income from their applications to feed and clothe their families, into doing something fun on Friday the 13th. Ready? Here they are:

1. I told them, "C’mon, think about all the attention you’ll get for your applications." - that perked their ears a bit cuz remember, they’re coders, not sales and marketing types.

2. After the first 2 or 3 "NO WAY!" responses from each of them, I reminded them that if somebody gets your app at any price (even if it’s a good one) they might use it and tell somebody else about it. So, please, if you do buy this bundle, don’t hesitate to become an evangelist for the applications you like.

3. All of the developers behind these great applications trust MacZOT and they’re all alumni. They must have had at least one good experience here, else they wouldn’t be able to participate in this deal.

The logistics:

First, the purchasing system at MacZOT requires you to be a registered member. If you’re not already a member (and you might test your login if you haven’t in a while) register here

Already know you want this bundle - Set your Alarm, you’ve got 13 hours (if you’re seeing this at GO!)

Aren’t sure, download the apps and try them out. Do your research. Then, Get ready to click the BUY button.

You will have only 4 small windows of opportunity to purchase this bundle today.

These are the times of today’s sale. The buy button will only work during these times. If you miss it, try again the next time. All times are in Pacific Daylight Time. (Not sure what time it is? Find out here.)

  • Buy 1 - 13:13 (that’s 1:13 pm PDT)

  • Buy 2, 3, 4 ???

Before we get started, please remember, here in California it’s Friday the 13th. If anything happens that you consider "not good" it could be… Bad Luck!

Remember, you must be a member of macZOT in order to purchase. Prepare yourself, register now.

Where do you ‘guys’ come up with this stuff? :) :)

Are we going to be able to do like in the past and do multiple and/or gift copies or is this a special ZOT?

  2. Giltinan said,

I certainly hope you will have 2 of the windows take place after 7:30 EDT since I will be in a place all day where I will have no internet access. Please
remember all of us east coasters who may not have daytime access and have very long commutes home to our beloved Macs, TIA

Hopefully I don’t have too many of these already (Like DEVONThink) :)

Friends, wouldn’t it be unlucky to be on a train and miss this?

I’d get on the phone and talk to friends and family.

You will be able to use our gift purchasing system. If we’re lucky, it will work.

    Enjoy this ZOT!

Whoa… great bundle! And I was just wondering when I could use the AppZapper joke again… “AppZapper anybody?”

So, while I seriously have to think about this as I already own most of the apps — and reckon the remainder is going to include Disco, HoudahSpot, iClip4, xPad, Stickler (grr) and the like — this Zot is truly recommended to Newbies and those who joined MacZot only recently.

    Zot On!

    gryphonent -

I don’ think it’ll include xPad… But I can always use another copy of AppZapper and especially Disco.

  9. Eniregnat said,

I plan to gift these apps to at least one person, perhaps two.

I love DevonThink, I use pro office (but I started at the basic level). AppZapper is a worthwhile app. So far, so go.

Now let’s hope that MacZot doesn’t crash during the mad rush.

Interesting Zot concept. I like it. Unfortunately I already own the four revealed, plus I own two Discos already. I would love to know what the other 9 are so I can decide if I really need to spend 13 dollars or not. From the description it sounds like most are solid apps that have been posted on Zot in the past, so the chance it great that I have many of them already.

For those coming back every 13 mins. they told you that the first buy will be at 1:13 PM EDT (or 13:13 PM EDT). That’s 3:13 PM CDT.

They haven’t announced the 2nd, 3rd or 4th buy times yet.

Okay, folks. We just revealed a few more of the apps:

    Business Trio 2007 from Jumsoft
    iClip 4 from Inventive

That still leaves 7 more apps to be revealed today.

Tell your friends, and set your clocks. You have less than 5 hours to go for the first buy at 1:13 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

The buy will ONLY last for 3 minutes.

Once that buy ends, we’ll reveal the next buy time.

Too bad you couldn’t do like you did with the Heist bundle and and gift the lics we already had. But hey, I’m not complaining, as long as the server doesn’t crash and I get my copy of this bundle ordered, it’s all good. :)

  68. Markus Winter said,

    April 13, 2007 @ 10:33 am

Well, since he doesn’t have to manually process each order there’s no reason to be location specific and restrict it to the “US buying time”. That is just inconsiderate towards the rest of the world.

  69. javery said,

    April 13, 2007 @ 10:37 am

I’m also wondering what just happened… the first window is supposed to be 1:13pm PST, but it looks like it’s already passed. It’s currently 10:37am PST, or 2.5 hours before the offer was supposed to open??

  70. Peter said,

    April 13, 2007 @ 10:38 am

offering an incredible deal on his terms isn’t really too insulting to anyone now is it? It is going to be difficult even for those in the U.S. and there are more opportunities out there. I’m just bummed about the short window and was hoping we don’t kill the servers. But not bummed enough to call it an insult :)

Also, if you don’t work for MacZOT it is likely that you don’t know specifically what goes into handling a new kind of offer like this. Since it is the first time, they may have to (or at least WANT to) babysit it to make sure the time-based windows work. I manage systems for a pretty complex web/telecom blended application and I know that the first time we did some of the trickier things we definitely babysat the process to monitor it, learn from it, improve it, etc.

Also, I’m not able to stay logged in on the home page. I can log in fine, but as soon as I go back to the home page I’m logged out. It would be a bit upsetting to miss out because of some programming glitch on the home page.

It’s not any easier for some us in the U.S. either. The 1st happens to hit at a time when I will be on my way home from work. The 2nd will probably hit when I’m picking up my children from child care. Hell the 3rd could go when I’m dropping a deuce… It comes down to how bad you want it. I persoanlly Thank the MacZot Team for putting such a great deal together. Everybody has their own opinion though.

Except for RapidWeaver, the offer isn’t worth $13.

I was looking forward to this offer since 3 AM, but it is just the same rehashing of the same programs maczot pushes on a daily basis.

    Pass.

  78. Michael said,

    April 13, 2007 @ 10:53 am

Yeah, why is the offer closed when the first time has not even arrived yet. This is really confusing!

I’d buy the bundle, but if you can not be clear and consistent on when the offer can be purchased then this is bad deal that will backfire.

Wow, there are some nice apps in this bundle. I have most of them already. I don’t have Meander, Audio Bookbuilder or iWorkout, but I’m not sure that I would really use them myself.

I don’t have Home Business, it sounds interesting, but not sure I would actually use it either.

I also don’t have Dockstar or Socialist, and I might try them out, but again I’m not sure I would use them.

I have everything else already and in some cases more than one of them.

If any one has any good things to say about these apps I don’t have, let me know.

I love AppZapper, iClip4, BookDog and Disco. They are the bomb. I have not had a chance to really use DevonThink or Rapid Weaver, but I have heard many good things about them both. I have Soulver, but have not really found a need for it so I can’t really comment on it.

  89. JClark said,

No no, what’s going on (as mentioned above) is that the countdown timer is using the time that your computer is set to. try it now, set your computer’s clock back a few hours and you’ll see a countdown.

I’ve set my computer to PSD time and it says 1 hour 58 minutes left, instead of “Offer Closed”. It’s a hastily added and poorly thought out bit of script, not a publishing problem.

DockStar 2 adds Screen Saver and Dashboard Widget
April 13 - 14:32 EDT Ecamm Network today announced the release of DockStar 2.0. The update adds a Dashboard Widget, Screen Saver, sound effects and other enhancements. In addition, DockStar brings customizable shapes and colors to the dock. Seamless integration allows users to control every aspect of the dock icon directly from Mail’s settings panel. The new version’s Screen Saver offers real-time information about incoming email using DockStar’s customizable mail badges. DockStar 2.0 is priced at US$8 and a demo is available.

“I know you don’t want to sell your app for $1, but you won’t really have to… see, when the time rolls around everyone will slam the server and bring it down. Then we get to blame it on Friday the 13th.”

I think this is a big joke. You’re servers can’t handle the load, so the machines keep resetting…do you think we’re just a bunch of monkeys that have nothing to better to do than slam on the refresh button every few seconds? I can’t believe the developers allowed this… You guys are a bunch of jackasses for wasting my time.

I got lucky and got thru - 1/2 hour after it began. Frustrating to have to spend that amount of time reloading to see if the site was back up, but still, I’m really not complaining–it’s a good deal nonetheless. Heck, I’ve spent a lot longer than that waiting for a lousy 90-second roller coaster!

  180. Kit said,

I guess it really was a poor April fools joke on all of us.
I shouldn’t be surprised as one of the last things I bought from Zot during a normal buying period gave me a crashed server also. Just imagine 1000’s of people trying to log on at once.
Now I can’t even submit this as the server is down again. Will keep trying.

Well… Waste of time. If you are going to do something like this and you have a suspicion that your server might not handle the load. Do something about it. A quote form the Zot Twitter: “what should we do if the servers crash?” That’s a couple of hours pre-crash.

I don’t believe for a second you hadn’t seen this coming. I don’t like being laughed at. If you don’t see us as valuable customers that bring you money, why should we?

  184. macmac said,

    April 13, 2007 @ 2:10 pm

I don’t even see a BUY button. I’d really like this bundle but every time I refresh, the counter goes from 28 seconds to zero, it then says “Offer Closed”, then when I refresh right after, it says “cannot connect to server”, and it takes me 10 or so minutes to even get here. So how are some of you finding a buy button and getting int?

  185. AT said,

    April 13, 2007 @ 2:10 pm

I managed to get through, got to paypal, paid for it, got my “you have been billed” e-mail from paypal but was sent back to a dead maczot.com site. Naturally I refreshed until I got a confirmation page but then the server went down again.
Now when it seems to be up and somewhat stable my order hasn’t been logged on my account on maczot.com. Shame, I was hoping to fiddle with some of the programs tonight but at least I have a receipt from paypal in case their server missed all orders.

I never could get it to come up, same connection failed error, then when I did get it to display I had the same 27 second countdown clock that went to Offer Closed and then the server was down for several minutes. I did this several times on both issues. Now it is onto Buy #2 Time at 3:13PM PDT, and I’m not sure I can be available nor am I sure I want to waste my time with all the problems.

Man the 1:13PM PDT Buy time was like a made Christmas Rush or one of those Shopping Stampedees for one of those game consoles that we saw people on the news getting hurt.

It was an interesting idea, and a great deal, but it is just frustrating from a customer stand point. Definitely need to plan ahead to handle large volumes of traffic at one time.

I bought a couple copies since I’m a new zot and didnt’ have any of them. I was expecting the server to crash, but I did eventually get through.

Developers: Don’t get discouraged, you can’t make some people happy. They think they’re entitled to EVERYTHING and have to work for nothing.

Discouraged Users: I certainly understand your frustration, but the folks here at MacZot are doing you a service by getting these developers to offer you deals on their Applications. How about giving them a bit of a break? Amazon.com went down when they offered some of their Thursday deals. If the larges e-commerce site can’t prepare for it how do you expect MacZot too?

    Hi Devin,

    Thanks for the support.

Yes, it is frustrating when you can get through and you’ve been waiting all day. I hate when that happens.

We apologize, but we didn’t really know how huge the response would be or how much our server could handle. We are doing our best to figure it out, and if you have trouble, you can email lisa@maczot.com.

Next buy time is at 3:13 p.m. PDT.

And there are 2 additional buy times after that.

    Thanks!!!

    First window: server completely dead.
Second window: didn’t even know when it was, as I’d been unable to get any sense out of the server for so long I gave up trying to find out.
Third window: 2:13 am UK time. Like I’m going to be around for that one.
Fourth window: the way things are going, probably about 5:13 am UK time.

Starting at 13:13 is very cute, but why couldn’t you have done the four windows as something like 13:13 Pacific, 13:13 Eastern, 13:13 European and 13:13 Australian? That way EVERYBODY gets a shot without having to stay up all night.

I don’t think I’ll be bothering with macZOT in the future if this is the level of support for European customers — the only sensibly timed window had the server die. How about allowing European customers to purchase anyway?

Incidentally, is postmaster@maczot.com accepting mail, or should I resend to lisa@maczot.com?

I give up, all I ever get is server not connected on the first and second round. In fact the page came up only for a short time warning of the 2nd round and then it quit responding until well after it was over. I saw the comments on the Twitter post and one of the guys says you had to be logged in, go to My Accounts and a Buy link will show up. I don’t understand that when I log in it takes me to My Accounts and then when I go back to the Today (Home) page it logs me back out, so I can’t stay logged in and watch the timer, plus it seems a bit confusing not to have the buy button on the Today page rather than hide it in the My Accounts section. Of course that does me no good as I can’t ever get the server to respond to even load the MacZot site.

So I have a paypal receipt but the order hasn’t shown up in my account yet. No emails either. And I got in on round one too. Should I be worried?

  258. MacMelo said,

    Missed round 1…
Had a problem with PayPal in round 2…
    But… Round 3 worked like a charm…

    Thanks

    No problem this time!
Thanks zot for getting the server fixed.

Thanks! Made it right in, no problems.

Excited to see what the other 7 apps are.

The paypal transaction completed and I received a receipt but I didn’t get anything from Maczot.

No email or anything showing up in my account.

    Did it go through?

Got mine! Bought the packae twice. Wanted to gift one but did not see a way to do that. Hopefully I will get two sets and can gift one otherwise I have two when I only need one. Still it will help the developers.

    Peace.

chris_a did you get it? If not, if you leave your email, we could work something out. I actually already have RapidWeaver. It’s a great program.

  264. Concept Solutions said,

I already have six of these . . . but I’m getting it anyway! How can these guys do this? What a steal. Each of these programs is worth much more than $1 each. Even if you have 12 of the 13, you can’t not buy this! I talked to a friend of mine and he’s joining in too. Thanks Zotologiests! I vote for more types of things like this . . . and don’t be discouraged by those who can’t read.

  265. oldbeamer said,

I bought two with the hope of being able to gift.

Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be an option to do so in the ‘My Orders’ page. Anyone know how to do it?

I was able to get in on the 3rd round. Thanx ZOT. I suspect that all of the whiners are the same folks that got a busy signal for front row tickets to the new Police tour the first day it was announced. That the server crashed, that there is so much interest, that you are having a hard time getting something for nothing is a testament to the success of the ZOT. Yes, we Zotgiest types should have some privledge, but for this deal it is reasonable to scramble a bit. I actually have paid for 3 or 4 of these at MacZot already, but couldn’t turn down such a deal. For the rest of you who have bad mouthed the process, I would remind you that these products are available for purchase 24/7/365 at the developers web sites (for full price).

It’s all a little confusing, but I think I did it right. As for iWorkout. I’m in Australia, land of bandwidth fascism. Does the demo version of iWorkout have everything, or should I wait for a special download link for the full version?

  269. Chris Kraft said,

    April 13, 2007 @ 7:12 pm

I emailed MacZot with my paypal info and they fixed my order. Thanks MacZot. This is a great deal. For this price it is, in my opinion, crazy to pass up the deal.

So I waited around like a good little zot-buyer and logged on at 1:13CST to find the site smacked. No shot at purchase for me. Finally get home tonight and eager to try again to find 23:56 PDT my next shot. Ouch. Can’t make that late at night.

If only I was better at Applescripting…

  271. Breton said,

    April 13, 2007 @ 7:39 pm

wait a sec, was I supposed to recieve an email confirmation of my order?

  272. blairwillis said,

Thanks, Zot, for the great deal and the great entertainment.

This reminds me of Ticketmaster back in the day when people suddenly realized you could buy tickets online, but their servers couldn’t handle the load. Shows would sell out in a matter of minutes (I’m referring to Phish circa 97) and it was a matter of pure luck if you could get through.

A note to everyone out there who has been b!tching all day…. RELAX!

I applaud the Zotsters for an excellent idea in experimental marketing. We always want what we can’t get, right?

And the amount of people who have no idea how clocks and timezones work, and can’t read the directions in the first place…. if you can’t find the humor in that, you should just go buy your software at full price.

    Thanks!

Oh come on ZOT! I’ve always got log in problems with your site and couldn’t get any of the earlier buys so now I get to wait up until 2am CST! My son has the early baseball game tomorrow I don’t want to be up at 2am! Open it up and let me buy already ;)

By the way, the ZOTgeist email this morning was really confusing! I bet I spent 13 minutes just trying to figure out that I couldn’t buy anything yet when I got my log in to work!

This is awesome. I can’t wait until the serials come so i can finish downloading the software….

    Hey there,

I finally got thru on round 2 but I had an error with my order. This is just an FYI to let you know I’m sending an email. BTW, I have PayPal receipts and screenshots that say I bought in Round 2 but the records on MacZOT say Round 3. BTW that’s not the problem, just something weird I noticed…

Home Business Trio ‘07 how do you download this one? It just takes me to a link

  277. Mark S said,

  278. Erichd said,

Heck, I own most of the 13, but not a full license for 6 of them….I hope …

    a) I’m awake

    b) the servers don’t crash

when I spend $13 of my extremely tight budget.

    I hope.

  279. Sanjay Mehta said,

    @Sean:

I guess that you need to download the three apps which make up the Home Business Trio individually … at least that’s what I assumed and did.

Maybe the license emails will have more info.

I e-mailed MacZot with my invoice ID (from the PayPal confirmation e-mail) and they fixed me right up. Now I just have to wait a bit for the serials. Dang it.

    Mark S. -

I have all but 3, but I still bought a couple cause at that price you can’t loose… :)

Thanks again to all the developers for supplying us with all this great software.
Also thanks to the staff of macZOT who unfortunately I’m sure have a little less hair tonight due to the *huge* popularity of this deal.
I probably wouldn’t keep spending money here if if you didn’t work so hard…

    You all rock !! :)

    Hi All,

Yes, this offer will soon be over. We hope all of you who wanted it, got it! What a great deal! Special thanks to all the developers! Please support them, their updates, their other products, and spread the word about the apps you like!

    Here is the deal:

The last buy time will be for a full 4 minutes just before midnight.

We hope most people are in bed and you will all make it in. I want to go to bed too. ;-)

It’s been a LONG and exciting day.

If you ordered, you will not get a confirmation from macZOT because we turned that off to hopefully not crash our server. So, if you have a PayPal receipt, you have the bundle(s) according to that.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Let’s give the developers some time with their families this weekend. You can download all the products and start using them. We hope to have them all out by Tuesday.

GIFTS: If you wanted to gift some of the products to others, please let us know ASAP. Send name and email address and your account info to lisa@maczot.com. I’ll start working on that tomorrow.

THANKS!!!! I hope you had a lucky day!

    Lisa

Thanks again for the help. Hopefully plan ‘B’ will work and I don’t need plan ‘A’ …

    We’ll see in 30 minutes :)
