I am german and live mostly in english speaking countries. I do need a
very good english german dictionary, since I need to look up uncommon
words. TranslateIt is the first program I found which fulfills my
requirements, it has never not found a translation for me. I also
do enjoy the history function, which helps me to remember the new
vocabulary. Back up was also good when I had some trouble after downloading
extra dictionaries. I highly recommend this program.

I use TranslateIt! for Mac every day and find it excellent. I don’t think there is anything comparable on the market.
The program is unobtrusive and integrates into Mac OS very well. The dictionaries are extensive, the user interface is well designed, and the software is very stable – hasn’t crashed yet. I’m very happy with TranslateIt!.

I love it very much. Perfect program. I am using it everyday.
The most interesting thing is ability to translate directly from the text
(scanning mode) without typing a word. One wish is to have it for Iphone
also. Again perfect,perfect and perfect.

I think TranslateIt! is fantastic.
I use it for German/English translation or vice-versa. It’s one of the few products out there that does both (I have English/German dictionary on my Mac, but it doesn’t do German/English). If there’s a computer nearby, TranslateIt! is faster than using a bound dictionary, and more reliable than web translators.

Du kan ikke snakker Norsk?
Ikke så god!

What exactly does “lifetime” license mean? Does it require internet connection at the time of use to provide the translation? Is there a charge for the additional dictionaries? If I translate a document from english to french, can I then have the Mac speak the french version to help my ear get used to the sound?

First, I have TranslateIt from a previous offer and swear by it!, @ Tommy, yes it does translate Norwegian – I believe you said:
“You can not speak Norwegian?
Not so good”
@ jeey I would advise noone to click on his “useful” NOT!!! link, I can only presume he gets revenue from people clicking on the link, either that or he is the developer of the software for sale on that web page – it is just a sales pitch for iFunia Video Converter Pro for Mac and countless similar products that crop up under different disguises on the web. I think the comment should be removes by the administration and the commentor barred, hung, drawn and quartered!!!!

I’ve tried this in the past and it is good, though overpriced. But the image being used in the promo – the pieces on ethanol production and the Pope – indicate a serious problem handling accents. Presumably this is a translation into Spanish from English which is being translated back into English (!!). The Spanish is fine, but all the accented letters are replaced with “y” or Cyrillic symbols (the devs of the app are Russian, I believe). Is this a problem with the app or the computer on which this image was produced? It certainly raises doubts, and it’s very strange this should be used to sell the app!

Still no portuguese?
Não, obrigado!

@matarius777: Thanks. I didn’t see it listed in the dictionaries. I’ll double check. (The above post pretty much exhausted my Norwegian.)

One thing I found with it’s translation was that after downloading a Swedish dictionary from http://mac.gettranslateit.com/download.shtml which I think is part of their website and trying to get it to translate a Swedish email it did not seem to work very well using the Postbox mail app but the same email in Mail or on the Gmail website it worked great.
So maybe if anyone is having problems there could be some programs that Translateit does not work well with or vice versa.
Just from a quick play of putting in a new dictionary and using it to translate a Swedish (which I’m pretty good a reading in) email and a Swedish newspaper has shown that it definitely well worth the money, at least from the perspective of saving me forever hunting for a dictionary for the occasional word I have no idea of.
It would be great though to find out what a Lifetime Licence means. Is it forever with this version (12) or forever through every version of the application.

At this time, I can’t even download the app. The site is not responding. It’s a shame, as I’m interested, but I won’t purchase sight unseen.

“lifetime” license mean – all updates will be absolutely free.
For text translation you must internet connect.

@ Tommy, I can’t remember exactly, as it was quite a while ago, but I seem to remember installing some 3rd party dictionaries by following some link that I found on their (iTranslate) Web site, or from the app itself.
