Benn eyeing it for some time already. Will I be able to upgrade this license to the pro version?

Hello Andrey,
Please, be advised that PRO version includes registration key for Windows and Mac. Does your question mean that you have Windows PC and you are interested in Windows version of Rohos Logon?

I have both Mac and Windows computers. Would I be able to use the same USB key if I get this version of Rohos Logon Key for Mac on MacZOT and then upgrade to a Pro version on Rohos’ web site?

While this seems like a slight added level of protection, the serial number on a USB drive isn’t always (or even that often) unique. A lot of times it’s a manufacturer ID number as opposed to a unique ID. On a Windows box you can see the issue come up in the registry where two different thumb drives leave the same registry key entry. So if, ” Rohos does not store any information on USB flash drive” then it looks like the only added level of protection is the PIN. Or am I missing something?

But what happens if the usb drive goes bad?

Andrey,
Yes you can update to PRO with this license, any time.

ubrgeek,
Sometimes, thats true. On our lab we have only one USB drive model that doesnt have serial number at all. And one model that has a ‘bad looking’ serial that seems to be just a counter. Anyway its a very small chance that a bad gay will have a USb stick with a serial number like yours.
macmac,
You can login by manual password entry (by default).

I’m very interested in this…or actually the Pro version since I use Windows at work.
How does it work with bluetooth? I carry an iphone with me everywhere I go…how would that work if using it with a Mac?
On the Windows side does it play well with Active Directory where I could visit any system to log in using it? Under Vista does it affect more than logons where I could use it with a standard user account that is not my own to access functions or files that are available as an administrator? For instance I work at a school and many times I don’t logout the generic student account(standard user) out but just need to quickly look at logs on a system so it will prompt me for my AD credentials. Will this work hand in hand with it?
Sorry for the Windows questions on a Mac site but as you can see I live in both worlds. :)

Whoops…to clarify I would only be interested in using bluetooth at home and a usb key at work if this can all be done. If not, then a single usb key is ok…just not preferable.

I’m also interested in knowing if this will work with an iPhone. I have a Mac at home and another one at work. Will one license suffice for use with both these machines?

Techslacker,
Steve,
Regards to iPhone & bluetooth support, We didnt tested but it should not work. BT in iPhone can be used only for head-phones support (imho). But you can try.
Techslacker,
Regards to Vista and AD, Rohos supports AD and it doesnt block the UAC window where you can authenticate as Admin (if you mean this use case). Actually Rohos logon icon integrates into UAC window, and you can have Student and Admin credentials on USb Key, and select a right user credential to use in UAC window. you can try.

I’d rather not take the risk that a “bad gay” might have a usb key with the same serial number as mine: I want better security that that, which seems to be provided on the windows side. In fact, this seems like a much more robust product for Windows users than for Mac users. Is anyone aware of any more mac-centric solutions in this vein?

Besides Rohos, these are the ones I know about. I haven’t used any of them though, so I can’t compare.
Aladdin makes eToken for the Mac – http://www.aladdin.com/news/2006/etoken/Linux_and_Mac.aspx

SanDisk has something similar

Britonius,
Regarding Aladdin eToken for Mac
We have tried to set up Aladdin eToken for Mac but unsuccesfully. Though, our company is Aladdin’s Solution Partner, and several help docs had been sent to us. Know that in order for Mac logon to work, a user needs SSL certificate.
Regarding SecuriKey
The price for SecuriKey Pro for Mac is $130. A bit high!?
Regarding SanDisk
Can’t say anything about it. Haven’t tested yet.

Thanks for the info, Natalia,

Didn’t care to address my concerns, Natalia? In any case, I hope you continue to improve your product, and if the security level increases I’d really like to take a look at it again sometime in the future.

Prajna,
Why not, yes in a way. We always are looking for a way to improve rohos logon to address all security risks. And we have now: 2-factor security (+ PIN code) and support of other USB tokens, if you dont trust to USB flash drive serial number :)
thanks for your attention.
