CookieYou could be unknowingly giving third-party’s access to all your personal information, browsing history and surfing habits. Data can be stored on your computer without you even knowing in a multitude of different formats: Cookies, Flash Cookies, Databases and local Storage. Cookie scans your computer for ALL types of Cookies, from all the top browsers, and is easily configured to remove all unwanted/tracking-advertising cookies. Cookie is super easy to use, just configure it once, and take control of your sensitive personal information. CookiesMost websites you visit will leave a small file called a ‘cookie’ on your computer to store information about you, and store any relevant site preferences. Most of the time this is fine, however some sites use this information to track your surfing habits for profiling/advertising purposes and more…. Flash CookiesFlash Cookies, can potentially be even more insidious, as they can store up-to 25x more information (100Kb) than regular cookies. Flash Cookies can even be used to restore regular cookies, long after the original cookie has been deleted. Databases/Local StorageDatabases, and Local Storage are generally more innocuous, and are used mainly by web applications to store data. Cookie, helps you to manage exactly who can access information about your online activities, all in one convenient location. With a clear and intuitive interface, Cookie is a must have application for anyone serious about protecting their personal information. After an initial simple setup, Cookie requires minimal effort to keep your computer clear from unwanted data-mining. *Cookie is currently optimised specifically to manage data from Safari 5+, WebKit, Chrome 10+, Chromium 10+, Camino 2+, Firefox 4+. Testimonials5 STARS! All in all a great tool for removing any unwanted cookies from your Mac computer. 5 STARS! The developer is very responsive as well. I sent an email before I purchased to find out some details of how Cookie worked and got a very quick personal respone. I also sent an email with technical questions and received a very quick personal response again. A++++ developer and app! I bought Cookie Stumbler before I discovered this developer and his app. I was unhappy with Cookie Stumber, personally. Cookie Stumbler forces you to quit your browser to delete the tracking cookies because it can’t delete them while the browser is open. It’s not very inuitive (to me) either. YMMV. Cookie is a much better app for my needs since it’s intuitive and deletes the cookies with my browser open, even while I surf the web. Highly recommended! 5 STARS! 4½ STARS! Does not work on my MBP with 10.6.7. Initially I thought Cookie wasn’t launching at all. It certainly wasn’t showing in my menu bar. But activity monitor shows that Cookie is running and is using all of available processor cycles. I never saw a user interface on the screen and after 5 minutes of it doing nothing but using up my system resources, I forced it off. Was the utility scanning for information on my cookies, to present to me? Not likely, because there was no disk activity according to activity monitor. I looked in the console and found no error messages. It’s possible that a system restart might cause Cookie to behave better, but it’s only been a few days since my last restart and I don’t feel like closing everything right now.

Not a comment on the app itself and a bit pedantic perhaps but since it is the leading sentence, isn’t “You could be unknowingly giving third-party’s access to all your personal information” a bit misleading. Some personal information maybe but not “All”.

To the developer: If I purchase here on MacZOT, is there some way to exchange my registration for a promo code for the Mac App Store version? I prefer to have my apps from there now. Thanks.

I just purchased Cookie less than two days ago directly from Russell’s website. No regrets seeing it here today at macZOT as it is worth every penny of the full asking price. Besides, I have used Russell’s software for years now, and supporting him is the right thing to do.
Initially, Cookie was released as MAS only purchase, but Russell was kind enough to open an alternative channel of distribution to those who are not participating in the MAS. Thanks Russell!
For me, this version with its menu bar drop-down works well with the added benefit of convenience. Cookie is the best utility for immediate cookie cleaning on Mac while still browsing. The ability to exclude files from Safari Extensions, and NinjaKit make Cookie all the sweeter.

@MacProCT
sorry for the delay in replying:
If you have a large number of Cookies, Cookie could take a while to parse them all, before opening the first time.
what you can do: (its annoying, but I am working on a solution for an update – you will only have this issue the first time)
wait for Cookie to open. (it could take a while, depending on how many cookies you have)
when it does finally open, immediately remove all tracking cookies (from the Cookies pane)
then go through and select your favorites, and remove all non-favorites.
favorites should be any websites which require you to log in (banks, forums etc)
This process could take a while if you have a large Cookie database.
like I said, this is annoying, and I am working on a first-run solution to make installation smoother.

@nicklo
you are correct, and i’ll change the wording on my site.

@picon
sure, if you purchase here, send me an email, and i’ll send you a MAS promo code.
obviously I can’t do this for everyone, as Apple only gives you 50 promo codes, but, i’ll do my best to keep everyone happy.

Hello
How long is “a while”? I just purchased Cookie based on the feedback here and it’s been over an hour and the app is still unresponsive. I didn’t think I had *that* many cookies to sort through ;) Am I better off restarting it or just letting it run?
Thanks
Bryan

Hi Bryan,
that does seem like quite a long time…
I would start it again.
I had a report from a user who initially had around 2300 cookies, and she said it took around 7mins, for the window to appear
let me know how it goes.

Hi Russell
Ok, just restarted it but the same thing is happening. It got a little further this time and asked me if I wanted to Automatically check for updates, but now the spinning beach ball is back. Was the initial 7 minutes for the application window to show up, or for the app to become responsive? Thanks for your hep with this.

Hi Bryan,
I’m really sorry, that it’s such a hassle. Try restarting Cookie again. She said it took 22 mins before she could remove Tracking cookies.
this is something I am working on now, to rectify in an update. It’s not really acceptable – but I assure you, once the Cookies are purged down to a manageable number, you won’t see this happen again.
:(
alternatively, you could delete all your cookies, and start fresh….
(make a backup just in case)
not ideal, but it will get you up and running.
for Safari, delete the file:
~/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
