DPS Plugin for iTunes
by Bongiovi Acoustics
With a simple download,
the DPS Plug-In will optimize the sound of iTunes for your Macintosh
computer and its accessories such as auxiliary speakers and
headphones. Improve brightness, clarity, and presence while
experiencing deeper, more resonant bass. The DPS Plug-In also
compensates for differences in volume between songs. It optimizes
music, movies, television and spoken word and dramatically improves
the playback of compressed audio files (mp3, AAC etc.).
The patented DPS
technology analyzes the audio signal in real-time and digitally
optimizes it for playback on your computer.
The user-friendly control
panel enables you to select your favorite "Custom Tuned
Profiles" that extend the frequency response of your built-in
computer speakers or any other audio accessories that you connect to
your computer. Each profile contains the settings for over 120
calibration points. The DPS iTunes Plug-In comes loaded with custom
profiles for the internal speakers of all Apple computer models as
well as multiple profiles for external speaker devices and headphones
that you may connect to your Mac.
Using the DPS Plug-In is
as simple as loading your favorite profiles into the settings menu
and activating it on the control panel.
***It’s easy… Push the
Button, Feel the Power!***
New profiles are
constantly being created to suit new Macintosh hardware and other
unique audio devices as they are brought to market. All profiles can
be downloaded in an instant.
The DPS Plug-In optimizes
your audio by:
- Enabling users to
customize their tuning profile settings
- Improving the audio
quality of any media played through iTunes
-
Improving the audio quality of compressed audio formats
-
Improving the audio clarity of movies and TV shows
-
Compensating for differences in volume between songs

We
are fanatics about sound, just like you. We come from the film and
music industries so we know the painstaking efforts required to
deliver studio-quality sound. The problem is, by the time the audio
gets to you it is often compromised by todays compressed audio
formats, delivery methods and your playback system. Let’s face it,
your computer speakers or ear buds are no?t exactly a studio mixing
room or movie theatre.
Until now, in the quest
for better sound you have had only one option; Buy more hardware–and
you can spend big $$ buying new headphones and accessory speakers.
Testimonials:
- "I’ll admit
that I was pretty skeptical about how much impact such a plug-in
could have, but I’m delighted to report that I was a fool: DPS’s
effect is immediate, impressive, and almost entirely pleasant. In
fact, the plug-in has now ruined me for iTunes without it."

- "I really love
the way that the Bongiovi DPS plug-in accurately reproduces the full
frequency and dynamic range of my tracks even at low volumes. The
best thing about it is that what I hear back actually sounds like it
did in the studio, no matter where I am listening. The plug-in seems
to retain the life and energy of my tracks, at any level and through
wildly different playback systems… it’s voodoo magic!! "

DPS is great. I have HEAR and truly dislike what it does to music. I’ve tried other alternatives, and DPS really enhances the music without making it sound over processed and artificial.
My ideal solution -although I don’t own it- is actually Audio Hijack Pro, used with some Audio Units I already have (IK Multimedia, Waves, etc.), since it works on the whole system. It’s great to read that DPS will have that system-wide capability in the future.
My second ideal solution is Wire Tap Studio, since it also works with Audio Units. Unfortunately it is more expensive and it has some latency when processing sound. This does not matter when listening to music, but makes it unusable for watching movies.
Both Wire Tap Studio and Audio Hijack Pro allow me to choose the exact Audio Units I want, and modify each parameter optimizing the sound for my specific speakers and headphones.
I think I could accomplish something similar via Jack OS X and AU Lab, but I have not tried it. Both are free, but not necessarily intuitive or as user friendly as the other alternatives.
For listening to music in iTunes, I pretty much use DPS every time and after months of use I still enjoy the results. It really enhances the music without making it sound artificial and annoying.

Seems there is something wrong with the TRY link. The DPS site requires a login.
Please could you fix that?

How come there are no options for desktop macs when selecting internal speakers (DPS for iTunes, Mac, MacZot)? I see MacBooks and iMacs, but no Mac Pros (or other desktops).
December 1st, 2010 at 12:21 pm
Most users of MacPro’s hook up external desktop speakers since the internal speaker of the MacPro is mono and the CPU is usually not on their desk next to their monitor.
If someone did want to use the DPS on the internal MacPro they could try one of the profiles for other desktop speakers or even better might be to use one of the built-in profiles from another mono system like the MacBook Air.
Also on our DPS forums users can send in requests for items they would like us to profile. We make new profiles on a weekly basis. Just let us know the make & model and we will add it to our request list.
Have fun experimenting and enjoying the DPS.

The severely limited time to test the plugin is, in my opinion, quite insulting. I had no time to properly test it. Does the developer not understand the need for sufficient time to try out this plug-in?

All you have to do to reset the 10min demo limit is to restart iTunes.
December 2nd, 2010 at 8:26 am
PFBMT, I appreciate the reply, but why not just make the demo good for a longer period of time. Let’s face it 10 minutes is no time to properly test this plugin and closing and restarting is a pain, to say the least.

I too was annoyed by the 10 minute demo time as comparing various types of songs from rock to acoustic to electronic was important. BUT in my annoyance I bit the bullet and bought DPS anyway after several frustrating iTunes restarts. All I can say is it does what it claims.
I have never recovered from Volume Logic being retired and iWOW didn’t impress me; this does! The various setting choices made the perfect acoustic experience for my office. I am very very happy.
That said, I HIGHLY recommend extending your demo time to 20-30 minutes so several songs can be played back to back, especially when comparing classical and extended electronica where tonal details are important.

Purchased it, Installed it, Love it.
SImple, cheap, amazing performance.
Started using iTunes more then before, the sound is amazing.
Now I’m converting all my movies into iTunes format, so I can watch them with this great audio booster technology.
Don’t bother with the Equalizer, DPS is a hole different game.
I recommend it indeed.

We at Bongiovi hear you and I promise the next release we will extend the demo period. Also in our soon to be released system-wide plugin, that all buyers of the itunes plugin will get upgraded for free, there is a 2hr demo period.
Thanks!

I bought it too, and so far I am thrilled with it’s performance. Appreciate the extended demo period for future, potential customers. It’s the right thing to do!

I grabbed it. I’ve been looking for a replacement for Volume Logic for a while. Volume Logic can be activated under SL but eventually it won’t work. Hear is absolutely awful. DPS sounds good under iTunes and that is all I need. I’ve seen DPS before, but I wasn’t going to pay $30 for it.
