I bought Mellel. In the preferences it gives only two options for citation manager 'Sente' and "Bookends'. To me it seems, unless there is a workaround, Endnote cannot be used at all. Wonder what the statement 'also works well with other software such as EndNote' means. I'll have to investigate some more.

Considering the problems I have been having with MS Word, I don't regret buying Mellel. Just wish EndNote support were better.

Mellel and Bookends is the best. I also do technical writing and I can't beat the combo.

Definitely consider Bookends. I stopped using EndNote around version 5 or 6, and got a Mellel/Bookends bundle a while back.
Due to compatibility concerns and certain formatting I already have automated, I'm using Word for my dissertation, but also have Mellel and Nisus Writer Pro. Great applications all of them.

Thanks MJ. I decided to go ahead and buy Mellel today. I didn't know Mellel can work with EndNote. I guess I'll start with Mellel-EndNote combination. If I find the integration lacking, I'll buy Bookends or Sente when a sale comes along.

@ white --

Have you been on Mellel's website? http://www.redlers.com/mellelscholars.html

It says: "Working with citations and bibliography is an essential part of your work, and Mellel does an excellent job supporting this option. Mellel integrates with two leading bibliography management software, Bookends by Sonny Software and Sente by Third Street Software, and also works well with other software such as EndNote."

Also, Mellel has join Bookends on a regular promo. For students, a bundle of Mellel and Bookends costs 89$.

(Note: I like Mellel a lot and it's very, very stable. However, given its steep learning curve I ended up making my PhD on Nisus Writer Pro — and Sente.)

Being a PhD student, a lot of my work involves technical writing so I have been tempted to get this for a long time. MS Word crashes on me a lot, and I have read multiple accounts all over the web on Mellel being the best word processor for Mac.

The only problem is all my writing needs use of a citation manager. I already have Endnote, which I believe Mellel cannot use. Does the developer have Endnote compatibility on its development roadmap?

Purchasing Mellel means an additional commitment to buy Bookends. Seeing how both these softwares go together, perhaps the developers should consider an combo discount the same day as the MacZot sale. (I have seen similar incentives from Rapidweaver plugin developers on days when Rapidweaver is on sale. I know the comparison is not totally valid since Bookends can be used with other software, but still worth consideration). I want to buy Mellel today, but won't be able to use it at all till the day Bookends is on sale. Kind of difficult to hit the buy button not knowing when that sale will come.

This is the best word processor I've used. It does have it quirks and seems daunting when you first open it up, but there is little this one can't do. I love this app. The price today is great.

I use this a lot, especially for initial drafts of larger texts. There's no syncing with MS Word comments and track changes, though the developer has promised this in his next big release. You get 2 yrs. of free updates, so getting it now would probably be a good thing. This is a good price.

One of my most used word processors! So, if you did not buy Mellel yet, do it — highly recommended.
