I just tried this app and it seems broken in many ways. I cannot add pictures from iPhoto, it does not re-size correctly, persons are shown on the grid but they cannot be removed or moved or anything.

Too bad – for the price it seemed to be a nice app.

    Hi Andreas,

Thank you for your comment. Could you please email me at support ‘at’ creativebe.com with the details of your problems? We’re happy to help!

    Hi Philipp,
My dad has already done a lot of research into our family’s history and entered the data in Family Tree Maker. Will Family allow me to import all his work or would I have to type everything up from scratch?

  4. Ivan Says:

Looks nice, I think I’ll buy it, even if resizing does not work here (I’m on 10.5.8).

    Hi Jim,

    Thank you for your question.

I’m afraid that importing is the current weak point of Family. Having said that we’re working on a brand new version of Family that will allow importing GEDCOM files, which I believe you can create with Family Tree Maker.

This has a nice, easy interface, but there doesn’t seem to be an option to import files like GED, Family Tree Maker or other formats. I’d like this better if the location & cause of death fields had the same smart input dropdown suggestion box that the name fields have. It would be useful if there were other fields for unique circumstances – my mother had two sets of parents – one, her birth parents and the other, her adoptive parents – There’s nowhere to indicate this although I can link them together. Photos are a problem if in an Aperture library, as the Aperture library is grayed out. Are there plans to expand this application with more features?

  7. Philipp Says:

    Hi Melusine,

Thank you for your feedback. Indeed we have big plans with Family, including improving the user interface, and allowing import of GED.

More feedback and suggestions are always welcome!

    Thanks Philipp,
Import and export features are absolutely necessary. I will not buy a copy today but I will keep an eye on Family. It is something I will likely purchase when the project matures a little further.
    Best of luck,
    Jim

Needs to be able to import GED. I’ve already got all the information and have no desire to retype it all.
