So is this the same kind of situation as BannerZest where all the good stuff is in the advanced version for a considerably larger chunk-o-change?
The thing is, the Standard version looks like it would be useful for making personal slideshows and the like. But I can see where I could use the Advanced version for some real work. The Regions of Interest look pretty cool.

There are obviously feature disparity, but I think they are more generous on this compared to BannerZest
BannerZest was a toned down of BannerZest Pro, they were released at about the same time. Meanwhile PulpMotion Advanced is an improvement of PulpMotion which released some time after PulpMotion
So BannerZest is a toned down app, while PulpMotion is a full featured app
If you’re looking forward to make some money from PulpMotion (real work), than I think you should not unwilling to shell out more bucks and buy the Advanced version

I think this is a really neat product and I had a nice time playing with all the different features. I just don’t think I’d use it enough to justify paying for it, even at the macZot price. Very cool product, though!
