| “AppZapper is a great piece of software that is easier to use than I had expected. There are very few obvious weaknesses of the Mac OS X, but the clean uninstall has been one of them and the AppZapper has taken care of that.” -AppleMatters.com “The graphical appearance of the application is so simple, its stunning. Everything has been kept to a minimum, therefore providing the user with a stress free, simple removal of applications.” … “A must have application for anyone who owns a Mac!” “As a Newbie this is a Must Have application.” … “In many ways AppZapper captures the Mac experience totally – you open AppZapper, you get a neat box that you drag the application you want to remove into, you press OK and woosh – it has gone! A quick check on Spotlight and no residual files are lurking around in the depths of your system. It really is that easy, and I cant recommend it enough.” “Not only does it help keep your system clean and save hard drive space, after using it today I have to admit theres a bit of fun when you zap an application. There is a satisfying flash and zap noise that prompted me to delete three or four unused apps just to hear it again.” “I would highly recommend this to someone that downloads and tries out a lot of freeware or shareware. It’s ease of use only makes it more worth it.” “This is definitely a must have thumbs up app…” “This application is great for quickly removing a new program you just wanted to test. It almost always finds the associated preferences and support files, removing them is simple.” “Great app, stable, easy to use, and very friendly developers ;-)” “Of course, OS X should have this functionality built in, but until then this little app is a life-saver. If you can’t resist trying every intesting looking shareware app out there, then AppZapper is an essential.” “I like this app a lot!!! Fast, easy and stable. High recommended!” “Totaly worth it if you download and try apps off this site alot!” “I’ve been waiting for something like this for years. Excellent concept and interface, just the right amount of eye (and ear) candy and a reasonable shareware fee. I bough my license right after the first zap.” |

Thanks, I’ve been wanting to buy a license for this! I knew if I waited long enough it’d show up here!

I’ve been using AppZapper for a million years now, and it works great.
But one time, I tried to use AppZapper to uninstall itself, and my computer disappeared into a wormhole! :D

Man, this thing hasn’t been updated in ages! Surprisingly it still works perfectly in Leopard. Definitely an app that every Mac user needs.

… unless you have Hazel!
Still, I was one of the fortunate ones who got about three licenses for AZ via Zot and stuff – and have used it for ages
Not got Hazel? Not got Appzapper? Get this one then!

I noticed it hasn’t been updated lately. Is it compatible with Leopard?

Hazel’s app sweep, is superior. I’ve never had app zapper get something hazel didn’t, but the opposite happens all the time. The interface is nice though and I found app zapper way before I found hazel. And since I have no other purpose for hazel–I purchased app zapper and run hazel in it’s demo mode (which lets you use app sweep). I’d download hazel just for app sweep, it’s worth it.
And for getting rid of those sticky preference files that just hide around and neither catches (really rare), devon technologies, EasyFind (which is freeware!) is great. You should have easyfind anyway though!
why dont mac oses (plural?) come with uninstallers?

I may give Hazel a try. Thanks for the tip.
I have an AppZapper license but the few times I tried to use it its performance did not convince me.
For now I use Tinker Tool System. It has a good uninstaller and MUCH more.

Got this the last time it was on here, I use it frequently to remove all the freeware and junk I try out from time to time.

doesn’t work for me in Leopard

I’ve found the opposite of some comments above. While I prefer the way Hazel works regarding installs(more natural), I find that appzapper finds more files to uninstall that Hazel misses. This is rare but has always been consistent. Never have I seen Hazel find something that appzapper misses.

I haven’t had AppZapper fail me yet, and I try a lot of software.
There are some freeware apps out there that are OK, but they lack icon and the sound.- Sounds silly, but the zapping sound is nice to hear.
Plus- it has a life long upgrade licence- so you never need to repurchase it. Which is more than I can say for many of the apps that I have- some of which require yearly fees.

Missed it. But considering the this is also the developer of Disco and that app hasnt been updated in a while I question their commitment to these apps… This does look like a solid app and there is an alternative that is very good called AppCleaner. Check it out as an alternative.

If I were evaluating AppZapper now, I have to admit that I would be put off by the fact that it’s not been updated in ages. However, I bought a license when there was quite a lot of hype surrounding it, and I’ve not been disappointed. On occasion I have to do some manual cleanup, but for the most part, the application is thorough. AppZapper’s spartan UI is, in this case, absolutely sufficient and its “zap!” is most gratifying. Fwiw, I run Leopard, and the only problem I’ve had with AppZapper is that its context menu option doesn’t work; however, if I launch the app manually and drag the app I want to uninstall onto its window, it works fine.

After getting rid of over 150 apps today, I have to say that the most efficient method for me is to use File Buddy. Both App Zapper and TTS seemed to do a fairly adequate job, but it turns out that many files and folders were being left behind :(
With File Buddy it takes a bit more time, but the results are definitely better.
