Great FTP client! Very customizable and feature rich. It’s replaced Fetch on my machine.

  2. Ian Beck Says:

Some of the features on this look very tempting. I’ll try using it during work tomorrow, but can anyone compare their experiences with YummyFTP versus Transmit? It seems this has been Zotted before; any past happy customers?

  3. ubrgeek Says:

I’ve paid for and used Fetch, Transmit and Yummy, plus the open source Cyberduck. Yummy blows them all away. From SFTP support to a lot of options for dealing with server- and client-side FTP matters, Yummy just rocks. Funny timing that this is the zot, as I had been away from doing Web development for around six months and had forgotten which FTP client I was used to using (I’m getting old *grin*). When I was looking through the folder I use specifically for these kinds of apps, I saw Yummy and remembered I had ditched the others. Give this one a shot. It works really well for me. (And no, I’m not related to the developers. Just a fanboy *grin*

I bought Yummy on the last ZOTA! nd I love it. It’s quick, intuitive and has the exact interface I expected in an FTP client. The best thing about it is the ability to customize the heck out of it. If you’re looking for a great FTP client Yummy’s it!

  5. flec65 Says:

I totally agree with ubrgeek. I’m using it at work and at home since 2 months and Yummy is just one notch above the competition. Yummy is feature packed, very reliable and so much faster than everything else (Cyberduck, Fetch, Captain FTP or Transmit). The features I like the most are scheduling and failure auto-recovery. The latter especially is a real time-saver.

  6. Nice Tryer Says:

This is by far the most overlooked FTP client for the Mac. I was lucky enough to get a good deal on it, the last time it was ZOT’ed. If you’re having the slightest thought of buying an FTP client, this is it. Yummy FTP beats Transmit, if you ask me – and I’ve used both extensively. The developer of Yummy FTP is a good sport and very communicative as well. One other important feeling is, that you definitely get the feel that this is an ‘alive and kicking’ kind of app, with a constant amount of updates each month or so, and it’s got a frequently used forum, for sending in feature request and whatnot.

A DEFINITE buy. Again, I never regret purchasing this, the last time it was ZOT’ted. (One of the best ZOT deals I had.)

  7. Petunia Says:

Yummy FTP blows Fetch out of cyberspace. I don’t have mine customized, like some of the others, but I love the speed. It will simultaneously upload multiple files and I can easily make modifications to files on the server. (It actually downs and ups the file automatically, but that works for me.) And did I mention it’s REALLY fast? I love it, as I move big files at home on a 512k up line.

There are 2 irritations – a drag n’ drop file needs to be placed onto it’s folder – putting it in with other files from the folder results in a transfer to the root folder. Not a biggie, but can get annoying when moving lots of files back and forth. There may be a customization for this, though, that I haven’t learned.

The other is the refresh rate. Sometimes a newly created file won’t be in the Yummy window right away, and refreshing won’t get it to show. I can go to the actual finder window and drag it over, but that can be frustrating. But I don’t recall that happening lately, so maybe that got fixed and I just didn’t notice. hmm….

Anyway, it’s well worth the money. I got it in a Zot bundle and love it. I’d been a Fetcher for years, but don’t miss it a bit.

  8. jr Says:

I must be the crazy one but I’m trying the trial and uploading 8 items ~2mb each and my upload speed seems to be about 1/2 as fast as what I just tried with Cyberduck.

  9. Britonius Says:

There is plenty of kudos for this product. I won’t repeat what has been said. Let me just say I zotted it quit a while back and I love it!

I then zotted Fetch just a little while back, which is a nice FTP but I like the features of Yummy better. I actually had to go back to Yummy while trying out Fetch, because I could not get Fetch to do what I needed and Yummy was able to do it no problem.

  10. justG Says:

There isn’t much to FTP’ing a file. Choosing an FTP client usually comes down to speed, look ‘n’ feel, and price. When I was looking for a client a year ago, I tried Cyberduck, Transmit, and Yummy FTP. The latter was the most comfortable for me to use, the fastest, and had amazing support. In my limited experience with Mac shareware developers, I’ve been fortunate enough to encounter some really pleasant folks; but if I had to award a prize for “The Most how-can-one-guy-be-that-approachable-and-courteous-and-responsive,” Jason would get it. Not just a sales ploy, my post-purchase support has been stellar as well.

My reading of review/tech blogs and forum posts told me that Transmit is the crowd (shareware) favourite, a fact that made me a bit hesitant to invest in something different. After trying and then buying, I haven’t once regretted that decision.

  11. Soukyan Says:

I purchased Yummy FTP last time around. It is a very well done client and has excellent functionality. A lot of people recommended Transmit, but after trying and comparing both, Yummy was faster (for me) and more intuitive to work with. While Transmit is a nice product, I still recommend Yummy FTP over it. I assume they have good support, but I’ve yet to experience any issues with the software so extra points for stability. This is well worth the ZOT!

    Ian Beck asked:
…but can anyone compare their experiences with YummyFTP versus Transmit? It seems this has been Zotted before; any past happy customers?

I bought Yummy FTP when it was Zotted last year around this time. It is one of the best software purchases I ever made. It’s easily worth its full price and the Zot deal just makes it sweeter!

I had been using Transmit for years and was reluctant to change simply because I’m fond of the guys at Panic and their great software for the Mac. But Yummy blows Transmit away, IMO. (Disclaimer: I haven’t used any of the most recent versions of Transmit because Yummy is my choice now and I have it set up just the way I like it.)

It is so feature rich that it’s almost dangerous to get into a discussion of all its features in a limited medium like this one, but I will tell you that one I particualrly love is auto-routing – (after setup) I can drag local files and drop them on the Yummy icon in my dock (even when it’s not running) and have them automatically uploaded to the correct place on the correct server, without even opening a browser window on the server, just based on where they came from in my local directory structure. And then get Growl confirmation when the upload is complete.

SWEET! That feature alone saves me at least 5-10 minutes a day, everyday. Not much, but it sure adds up.

I also read all of the other comments above this one and echo every good thing that has already been said, especially about the frequent (free and significant) updates.

  13. digitalcowboy Says:

I forgot to mention, that I love Yummy so much that when I saw it in my MacZOT RSS feed, I came here specifically to praise and recommend it.

  14. Rees Maxwell Says:

Buy it, buy another copy, buy one for a friend! I love this program, works perfectly. Has a feature where I can set up a connection to a server/folder, and then I can place that alias icon on my dock and when I’m working on something I can just drop new files onto that icon and away they go!

The developer is highly responsive to the forum. Is always taking suggestions and adding them to the next build. A bunch of new features are being added right now.

Buy this program. I did, and love it!! (And it is dang cheap right now, too!!)

  15. Brent Says:

Can I have some of that Kool-Aid?

A lot of the features you guys have mentioned are in Transmit.

Anyhow, Yummy has always intrigued me and I think I’ll give it a spin.

  16. harringg Says:

I’m using Yummy too and am pleased with it’s features. What’s the license agreement (it’s not clear) on multiple machines per single user? I’ll get another copy at this price if it’s one/machine but would like clarification.

  17. Ian Beck Says:

    @harringg: From the Yummy license:

“Yummy FTP is licensed on a per-user basis, which means that it is licensed to the registered user, not the machine it is installed on. This allows the registered user to install the software on as many machines as he/she owns, but only the registered user may use the software.”

    @digitalcowboy: Thanks for your comments!

  18. Josh Says:

Creates a very hard to delete invisible file in your preferences folder called “:4002711:” – yes, that’s right, with colons in the file name. If the author is reading this, please fix this bug ASAP! It is impossible to delete via the Terminal. You must delete it using the Finder with invisible files showing. File names with colons are a dangerous thing indeed!

  19. Josh Says:

Additional… only seems to be created if you try and connect to a server and you are out of demo-time. The thought would occur that it’s related to the trial expiry system; however, deletion of it does nothing. Don’t get me wrong, I really like this app and have already purchased it through MacZot, but colon-based file names are horrible… especially invisible ones.

  20. Jason Downing Says:

@Josh: Wow, good find! Please sign up as a beta tester :)

I’ve built a new beta (version 1.6.2b2) which you can download here:

@everyone: Sorry for this glitch – thank you for all the very kind comments!

  21. flec65 Says:

    Now, that’s a responsive developper!
Another great reason to love this app! :-)

    @Josh: Nice catch!

  22. Josh Says:

    Thanks for fixing the bug!
