Welcome to the family Carl! (Even if it is a few months late.) :D

  2. Mark S Says:

Hey! What’s going on here? Carl can’t have another birthday!

  3. justG Says:

I don’t like Delicious Library and while I love the *pedia applications, I do wish they weren’t individual apps. I love Librarian Pro’s all-in-one approach, Koingo Software have a great reputation in the community, and this is a fantastic price. Need to properly evaluate the software first, but from the looks of things, expect to zot it a bit later in the day.

  4. erichd Says:

I love the way this imports nearly everything I’d need to keep track of from other apps, but I do wish it imported serial numbers for apps and also imported apps from folders other than “applications”, as I keep my games on a separate drive, in a folder called “gamez”!

Kongo’s upgrade policy is unbeatable, as is their “utility bundle,” which I got through a previous Zot!

(disclosure: I lightly beta-tested this applicaiton)

  5. Angelo Says:

Well, I am nt sure I’ll have the time to try it today, question being: can it also look in other inerne databases for people such as us italians, who don’t have a local amazon site?

In other word, is there a way to instruct it to search let’s say in http://www.bol.com ?

Till now I only found boxter that have this capability!

  6. amethyst Says:

Maczot front page shows 1Passwd as the app today, but if you try to buy it, it says the offer is expired. In my email and on the discuss page it shows that today’s app is Librarian Pro, but that link doesn’t work either. Both are fine programs, but I can’t purchase either of them. Hopefully this gets fixed, and I’ll be able to have a new addition to my software collection today. Thanks.

  7. Soukyan Says:

Nice! I was testing out this application and decided it was good enough to replace Delicious Library on my Mac. I use Data Guardian and Mac Pilot from Koingo and like them both, so I figured this application would be just as impressive as their others. Indeed it is. I thought I had missed this Zot!, but I logged into my account and found the special offer. Thanks a bunch for offering this when you did, MacZOT team. And Happy Birthday, Carl!

  8. stainboy Says:

i’ve already got Delicious Library, and while it’s becoming pretty slow, i’m going to wait and see what the DL 2.0 overhaul will bring. if i didn’t already have it, i’d be all over this software. Koingo’s great!

  9. Steve Says:

Awesome! I’ve been waiting for a better alternative to DL where, for a reasonable price, I can use my iSight to scan in… er… oh… bummer.

  10. Daniel Says:

I’ve got Delicious Library as well, and I don’t have a massive collection, so I don’t see myself spending money to switch. If this app had support for comic books, I’d switch in a heartbeat. I’ve got 4000 comics that I keep in an Excel/NeoOffice spreadsheet, and I would love to put them in a visual database with additional info.

  11. Techslacker Says:

Count me in the group that would love to see a decent Mac app that can catalog my old collection of comicbooks easily. The last thing I want to do is type everything in. I’ve started looking to online solutions but so far am not very impressed.

  12. craggles Says:

    I agree with ‘amethyst’

I too was puzzled by the 1password link as well as the current ‘library’ maczot. the 1 password offer had expired according to http://1passwd.com/ which was a shame as I was gearing up to purchasing it.

I don’t seem to be able to get back to the ’1password’ page anymore though. :(

  13. ZOT Says:

    Hey everyone,

Looks like something was messed up earlier this morning with our home page, but now it is worked out. Weird.

Today’s app is Librarian Pro and it is a great new app from Josh at Koingo Software. Check it out!

Sorry about the confusion earlier this morning.

    Lisa

  14. Lonnie Says:

NOOOOOOO! Bring back 1password. I wanted to buy it, not this libraian pro crap :(

  15. craggles Says:

    Thanks for the explanation Lisa.

Is 1password coming up again soon at all?
(which could explain the addition of it this morning)

I just thought I’d be cheeky and ask. :P

MacZot rocks btw. It’s made me look at some great timesaving/productivity apps that I didn’t know existed or hadn’t thought I needed until finding out what they did. :D
(I’m pleased with all my purchases form you and even the ‘next zot’ app that I won)
…but I notice my previous and this post is coming up as ‘anonymous’ but I’m sure I logged in. :S

  16. Lauram Says:

On Librarian Pro: I actually use Delicious Library a lot, but it has some buggishness and I’d be willing to switch, only this seems to be annoyingly uncustomizable by comparision.

For example, if you want to use the program for just one thing — in my case, keeping track of books — you can’t get rid of all the other media types cluttering up the side window with their icons (ugly ones, too). There seems to be no way of hiding the “Borrowers” window of that’s not a feature you intended to use. The appearance of the main listing window is not very customizable as far as I can see. You can set the type small (to display a lot of items) but you can’t get rules between the columns so that it’s easier to read.

You also can’t get the item view to display on the side of the list view, as it automatically does in DL, so you have to select and then scroll down through the item view in order to read all of it — a huge nuisance.

There’s no forum for this app — not sure if this is because it’s new, but this means that if you have a question not addressed in the pretty lightweight help files that come with Librarian Pro, you have to email it to the developers and wait for them to get back to you. Shades of SoHo Notes! And we all know how much everyone *loves* them.

Entry of new items into DL and looking them up on Amazon is easily done straight from the keyboard, very intuitive. If you’re in the Books listing, you just type command-N. In Librarian Pro, there’s a different key combination for each type of media you might want to enter, so it’s command-option-1, less convenient. In DL, once you’ve entered enough info for an Amazon search, you only need to hit Return to send it to look up the item. In Librarian Pro, you apparently have to switch to the mouse to click an icon.

That’s all I can see for now. The DL interface is just more customizable, more intuitive, and as far as I can tell, just as fast as this. Ironically, considering its reputation as eye candy, I don’t even like the way DL looks, but it’s a workhorse for me, as I have lots of media going in and out of this place, and I’ve found nothing better.

  18. Collin Says:

    Anybody else having this problem?

In the window that lists all of the movies in my collection, when I click on a DVD it sometimes opens open up in the detail window at the bottom of the app. Most of the time it launches the Amazon page for the DVD. I thought it was because I was clicking on the title and not the thumbnail image, but it happens either way. Very annoying. I have close to 800 DVDs and I don’t want to be stepping through them with the arrow keys.

On further testing this appears to be happening only if I am viewing my collection as a list and not as a gallery, and it’s only happening with some movies. I wonder if it has anything to do with importing from Delicious Library? I do know the import didn’t bring over any thumbnails and I had to reload the details from Amazon.

All in all, I may still get this. DL is just running so slow for me, and I’m tired of waiting for the new version.

  19. Josh Hague Says:

To remove types you don’t want in your list, just turn them off in Preferences.

  20. justG Says:

@Lauram: Thanks, that was a very helpful review of the application. In spite of its shortcomings, I’m still leaning toward supporting its development. Like you, I don’t like the way DL looks, but unlike you, I can’t get past its aesthetic to appreciate its functionality.

@Collin: delicious monster have said that DL 2 will require Leopard, and they expect to release it on the day Leopard is launched. That tells me that it’s pretty much ready to go, and we’re not waiting for DL, we’re waiting for Leopard.

  21. craggles Says:

Hi Carl – Thanks a lot!!! I’m about to go for the checkout but I have 1 question…

If I use it on 2 computers, my main desktop and my laptop, does it still count as a single user license as I’m the same user on both or do I need to get a multi-license?

    Thanks again! :)

  22. craggles Says:

    Hi Carl

Ignore that previous comment, I’ve found it in the forum. :)

    Purchasing away! :D

  23. Britonius Says:

I have Delicious as well and I have products from Koingo. Koingo makes some good products and has very responsive support, and I appreciate that. This product looks nice but it’s missing the scanning piece that DL has. I don’t have much in DL as yet as I haven’t had a chance to play with it enough. I think I will has to pass on this for now and wait for DL 2.0 to see what new features it has in it.

  24. Rees Maxwell Says:

    Carl, you’re awesome!

Brian fiddles around and mistakenly gets the old 1PASSWD page up … and you come in and say you’ll give $10 off to anyone here. Man, you SO get what the small Mac dev community is about!

There is another small Mac dev I emailed about them putting their software on MacZot… and they said something to the effect of: “There are a lot of companies who want to package up our software and offer it at a discount. We’re selling plenty now and don’t need to discount it. Once our sales drop off we’ll think about MacZot.”

They SO don’t get it. And while I am amazed when some devs offer a lifetime upgrade policy, I don’t even expect it. I expect that I’ll get to use software through all point upgrades (from 2.3 to 2.4, etc.), but that I’ll have to pay some sort of version upgrade fee when there is a new version released (from 2.x to 3.0). I could kinda understand small devs wanting to limit the discounts they offer if it means that they will never have another opp. to make some money off of a happy user … but no one says you have to offer a policy of “pay once and you can reap the benefits of all of the hundreds of hours I put into this app year after year.” (NOT that I’m knocking it!) :D

So thanks again Carl for being excited about our excitement over your software. 1PASSWD is awesome (I use it many many times a day) and I look forward to seeing MyPasswd!

  25. Fonzi Says:

I don”t get what’s so awesome about DL’s scanning option. Sure, it’s nice to play with it, but in my experience, I am much quicker to add the ISBN by hand.
Also, it will fail with or take more than one try with quite a few of my books and records.
And besides that most older books and records don’t have a barcode on them, anyway (at least when it comes to my homeland Germany), so if you’re a true collector who keeps a lot of old things – and why else would you want a database like DL?) – the scanner is of limited use.

IMO, the whole scanning thing is a cool toy and nice to show to other users but no productivity enhancement.

The true killer feature of DL was/is the Amazon completion, and look, LP got it, too.

So in the end it’s matter of taste, I think.

  26. Daniel Says:

I’m using Delicious on a Macbook Pro, and there’s no numeric keypad, so doing ISBN’s by hand is very, very slow compared to the barcode scanning – even if it takes two or three tries to get it to take. I really appreciate that it doesn’t require a dedicated scanner and I can scan using the built-in iSight. That’s not a slight against LP in any way, I just wanted to respond to the previous comment :)

  27. Phil Says:

    Angelo,

No Librarian Pro does not search sites other than Amazon (like bol). If you do want one that has a great range of other sites, best to head to http://www.bruji.com for the superior pedia apps.

Im new to this Zot thingy… is this offer still available? Or are the offers only good for one day?
